PRESIDENT Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has accepted Chinese President Xi Jinping's invitation to visit Beijing "to elevate bilateral ties with China," Malacaang announced Friday.

During his recent meeting with Marcos in Malacaang, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi personally extended the invitation.

When asked if the President accepted the Chinese government's invitation, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said, "Yes, he (Marcos) did."

Cruz-Angeles stated that no date has been set for the visit.

During his courtesy call on Marcos, Wang emphasized "the cooperation between China and the Philippines, which transcends any maritime disputes," according to Cruz-Angeles.

"The friendship between the two sides has lasted for many years," the Chinese minister said.

The President, for his part, "seeks to elevate bilateral ties with China," Cruz-Angeles said.

Wang congratulated Marcos on Twitter and expressed Xi's support for his administration.

"We also talked about agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and our commitment to maintaining our peoples' strong relationship in the coming years," Marcos said.
